More than one in seven adults have kidney disease — and the majority don’t know it. That’s because early kidney trouble is famously quiet. But “quiet” isn’t the same as “silent,” and the body sometimes drops hints worth noticing.
Three that are easy to dismiss:
- Unusual fatigue that rest doesn’t fix. When the kidneys struggle, waste can build and the body can make fewer of the signals that keep your energy up. Tired-all-the-time has many causes — but it’s worth ruling this one out.
- Changes you can see — swelling or puffiness. Subtle fluid retention, often around the ankles or eyes, can be one of the earlier outward signs that the kidneys aren’t clearing fluid as efficiently.
- A history that raises the odds. Diabetes and high blood pressure are the two biggest drivers of kidney disease. If either is part of your story, your kidneys deserve attention before symptoms ever appear.
Here’s the honest part: none of these proves anything on its own, and the only way to truly know is simple testing your doctor can order. What I can tell you is that the earlier kidney stress is caught, the more there is to do about it — and that’s where a whole-body, root-cause approach has the most to offer.
